Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has issued a warning of “laziness” to in-form striker Marcus Rashford amid his sensational form in front of goal.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a rich vein of form since the turn of the year, having scored 10 times since the beginning of January, including goals in each of his past four Premier League games.

He was once again on the scoresheet against Leeds United on Sunday, helping his side to a 2-0 win over their long-time rivals to take his tally to 21 strikes across all competitions this season, which is just one goal shy of his career-best tally of 22 in the 2019/20 campaign.

Many have lauded Red Devils striker coach Benni McCarthy for Rashford’s displays this season, while the player himself has received many plaudits for his form in front of goal, which has helped sparked hopes of a late title challenge from United.

His manager Ten Hag, however, believes the England international needs to stay focused to avoid any laziness that could hinder his purple patch.

“I don’t know when it will stop but if you are satisfied with it, then it will,” the Dutchman warned, per 90Min.

“And because satisfaction goes to laziness, you have to keep investing every day.

“When he keeps the investment and keeps the focus in every game and brings the energy and belief in, he will keep scoring.

“He has the skills to score with right, with left and with his head. It’s about him getting into position.

“I told him at the start of the season: ‘Every game you will be in a position to score, and you have the capabilities to score so it’s about keeping that focus over 90-95 minutes’.

“If he does that, you can see that he can score with left [foot], right [foot], and with his head.”

According to Transfermarkt, the forward has already scored more Premier Leagues goals this season than he managed in seven of his last eight seasons in the English top flight.
